A view different than the usual one. Looking at iOS app store one can definitely make such an argument.

Yes WordPress Themes are expensive but not all. There are so many beautiful WP themes out there that are very well designed and are available at cheap price.

The author makes a good point, though it would perhaps be more accurate and less link-bait-y to call the post "WordPress themes are hard to use." I do quite like the idea of adding a typical set-up time for a complete n00b to the theme's marketplace listing, sort of the way recipes including cooking time and prep time.

It's worth considering that Nick Davis at Theme Valet charges $99 to set up a theme just like the demo, using demo content. I don't know what his hourly rate is, but this is an indication that it takes an experienced professional time to set up a theme. If you're not experienced, it's going to take you a lot longer.

Easier onboarding for theme users is definitely an issue that the theme review team and the WP core team have discussed, and the inclusion of sample content in the theme repository is a gesture in that direction, as are various changes to the customizer. But there's clearly quite a long way to go.
