Finding the Best WordPress Hosting (Really, Not Really)

pagely.com | Jan. 27, 2017 | 6 min read

Best for ________. That blank is what is conveniently left out of most 'best of' lists. Every provider is good at something and some may certainly be the best for a specific use case, but the over-arching 'best' list you are looking for does not exist.

I'm glad to see that someone else on the Internet is frustrated with the "option posts" concept, i.e., "The 4 best WordPress hosting companies." I agree with Rod's assertion that you need to find what's most important to you; but one of the categories that he left out is features.

Stuff like git push, one-click staging, and a solid cache are pretty important to me, as a developer. Many hosts say they offer these features, but the way that they're implemented (say, in Kinsta vs. WPEngine) are very different.

Hey Josh - good point. We might look at a follow up post that explores that side of the hosting world. Any interest in a guest post?

Sure thing, Rod, thanks! I've never used Pagely myself, but my experience in other WordPress hosting solutions is pretty extensive, if that helps. I've used WPEngine, Kinsta, Pantheon, Siteground, Flywheel (briefly) and even GoDaddy.

I feel like ease-of-use in the hosting admin area is another consideration: for instance, a host may have blazingly fast speed, but if their admin area is a clunky UX nightmare, then it's still going to be difficult to manage.

I'm glad you mentioned support in your article as well. As someone who spent a week running back and forth between WPEngine and Sucuri's support teams trying to figure out who was responsible for a caching issue, every hosting company has support, but the quality of that support can vary.

Let me know if I can be of assistance!
