Interesting discussion about how Yoast might even build a full SEO mode into Gutenberg.

This looks like a great approach. I hope it inspires other plugin developers who rely on metaboxes...and that they, also, will have the resources to rethink and rebuild.

The resource part is key. Most plugin authors are solo-person shops. I estimate that only 10%-15% plugins would be able to adopt to Gutenberg-first approach.

It's worrisome. That's a lot of work for a developer to put in just to make the plugin do what it did before. It could result in a nicer interface and possibly some other improvements that would justify an increased price for the premium plugins, but what about free plugins?

It's quite interesting to see some of their ideas. I can seem quite a bit of inspiration take from Hemingway and the other increasingly popular text editors that offer improvements (not sure what the term of art is for these apps).
