Episode 84 - Million Dollar Corruption in WordPress

mastermind.fm | Nov. 21, 2017 | 2 min read

A turbulent second half of the Dumitru Brinzan interview at Mastermind.fm where he openly talks about some very real problems that are festering behind the apparent blockbuster success of WordPress.

It takes some chops for folks like Dumitru to paint the picture he has about the .org/theme debacle -- I commend him.

More people should feel safe to come forward with similar experiences and insights. I don't think we'll ever see the kind of change or traditional commercialized marketplace on .org -- but we will see it through way of Jetpack + Gutenberg and sooner than we think. Which is exactly why (enter: tin foil hat) we haven't seen a solution for the repo, the monetization, the gamed algorithm and so on.

Dumitru's thoughts on simply changing "Featured" to "Random" makes perfect sense. It still won't change gaming the system but it can better articulate that any crappy themes people are presented with are here at random.

Excellent episode.

Thank you Matt for your kind words.

P.S. I also have a tin foil hat like that ^_^

Isn't the name theme collision problem, a huge huge security issue? So I could just mimic the name of a popular theme, and through sheer statistics of that theme, I'll get my theme installed on literally thousands of sites?
