Idea for ManageWP

Jan. 21, 2014

An idea. . .

Sometimes I click a bunch of links on the ManageWP homepage and then read through the articles one at a time. By the time I'm done, I've forgotten to get back to the homepage and actually upvote the articles I liked! So here's an idea (possibly a bad one): what if each link opened with the upvote/share buttons included (iframe, right?). Just a thought.

Keep up the awesome work, I love your site!

@Mickey, I agree with you about forgetting come back to upvote! Site like Growth Hacker TV did the same as you suggested, open shared URL in an iframe with a topbar.

Excellent idea, let me see what we can come up with. topbar might be too big, maybe just a small floating bar.

The other idea is that when you click through an article you automatically upvote it, so you have to remember to downvote it if you dont like it :)

Right, I was thinking of just two small links that hover in the bottom right of the window. The automatic upvote is an interested idea, but in my mind that just kind of places the burden of action somewhere else. Either way - I trust ya'll to do something cool :)

Hey Mickey,

Great idea. I too thought about this long and hard when proposing initial concepts for increasing interaction. The thing is that it has to be done in an elegant and minimal manner. However, I can't recall when exactly, but I know there was a time when Facebook was hijacking links and had an iframe thing going. I absolutely hated it with a passion. So it's all about striking a balance.

I'm sure we will come up with something! :)

It might be too outside the box, but what about a browser plugin? Add a small icon directly in the browser bar, kinda like the Save-To-Read firefox plugin does. addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/save-to-read/
I know i'd install it.
Or have the current ManageWP Bookmarklet act 2 ways, allowing you to share a link, or upvote it if you we're redirected from ManageWP.

I'd settle for an embeddable 'upvote' button!

We already have that, but of course not every site is using it managewp.org/resources

Ah, I guess I was thinking of the Jetpack implementation. Fair enough.

Instead of up-voting automatically, what if there were a visits counter?

Thats a good idea actually.
