Kinsey Wilson has been named president of WordPress.com and he will join the company early next month.
Wilson joins in a new role announced by Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg. Kinsey Wilson, a longtime digital executive who has held leadership positions at major news organizations including NPR and The New York Times, has been named President of WordPress.com.
The appointment was announced by Matt Mullenweg, cofounder of WordPress and CEO of Automattic Inc., the parent company of WordPress.com.
As President of WordPress.com, Wilson will oversee Automattic’s flagship commercial product, a web publishing platform that powers millions of sites. He will join the company early next month.
WordPress, which powers 29 percent of all sites on the web, has been at the forefront of a movement to democratize publishing, putting in the hands of bloggers and other writers a free, easy-to-use tool that allowed them to reach audiences directly. With an army of open-source developers behind it, WordPress has grown into a powerful platform that serves everyone from solo authors and fledgling entrepreneurs to large enterprises.
